For years, Robby was a self-made man. “I’ve always had my own business and never needed anyone else,” he recently wrote. But in the aftermath of the pandemic, he lost his business, then his housing, and eventually while homeless, his health.

While recovering at the hospital after losing his medications and his ability to manage his HIV infection, Robby was referred to Maitri. Over the next 18 months, he found not just the stable foundation he needed to heal, he reclaimed his hope.

During his time at Maitri, Robby flourished, engaging not just with our nurses, but our staff therapist to help him heal holistically.
After a few months, he wrote in a thank you note, “Maitri is my family. Thank you all for giving me back my life.”

Today, we’re overjoyed to celebrate that Robby has graduated from Maitri! He’s happily living in his own apartment again and looking into how he might be able to start a new business.

For now though, Robby has joined our BRANCH Aftercare Program to ensure that he has the ongoing support he needs to remain housed and independent. As he embarks on this new chapter, his gratitude shows the impact that compassionate care has on our community: “Thank you for giving me the help I needed to step back into the world.”
