Maitri’s Affirmation Center (MAC) will be an expansion of our current services to address a direct and urgent need in our community – a safe, welcoming, and compassionate place to receive post-surgical care after gender affirmation procedures.
Through our pilot Gender Affirmation Care program, we have provided dozens of transgender clients with 24-hour nursing care, mental healthcare, social work case management, nutritious meals, and psychosocial support.
Maitri’s Affirmation Center (MAC) is an expansion of our existing gender affirmation care from one to three rooms. The center caters to our low-income trans community.
Our current pilot room features one private room with a private bathroom and close access to a shower. Our Gender Affirmation Care clients receive at least three meals a day with snacks throughout the day, access to two outside patios, TV, and a phone in the room. We provide all of our Residential Care clients with 24-hour nursing care, mental health, and psychosocial support.
To create Maitri’s Affirmation Center, we will renovate existing office space to create two additional residential rooms with private bathrooms and showers. Maitri’s Affirmation Center is not just an expansion of our physical space, we will also work with community partners to increase our knowledge on best practices in medical and mental healthcare for our gender affirmation clients.
