HIV/AIDS Residential Care

Maitri was founded as an AIDS hospice in 1987. Since then, we’ve adapted our programs to meet the current reality of HIV/AIDS care. Today, we offer short-term respite care and hospice care to people living with the disease.

24-hour compassionate care

Maitri uses an interdisciplinary care model to help clients meet their health goals. Our care team combines clinical staff, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and a nursing team of Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) led by a dedicated RN Nursing Director.

A home-like setting for our clients

We welcome our residents live in one of 15 SRO-style rooms with adjoining bathrooms and shared shower facilities. Our building was designed in 1997 to be nurturing, home-like, and offer care that focuses on community.

When you donate to Maitri, you’re directly helping to ensure that no one in San Francisco has to suffer, transition, or die alone. Together we’re creating a community where every person, regardless of their HIV status or identity, knows they belong and are cared for.
