The George Stevens Award

Havrehed-Teraoka-Gordon_11-14-10The George Stevens Award was created to recognize and honor the outstanding work and dedication of a Maitri volunteer who embodies George’s gift of listening and understanding in a nonjudgmental manner while providing comfort and support to those in need. The George Stevens Award commends the efforts of those who nurture and preserve the healing environment of Maitri with dignity and love.

On November 14, 2010 Maitri presented long-time volunteer, Kirsten Havrehed with its first annual George Stevens Award at a reception attended by over 30 guests. Maitri’s Interim Executive Director, Traci Teraoka, shared her thoughts and recollections about former Board member, volunteer and donor, George Stevens and his contributions to Maitri, the concept of the award and most important, how Kirsten embodies the spirit of George’s gift of listening and understanding in a nonjudgmental manner while providing comfort and support to those in need. Maitri is profoundly grateful to Kirsten for nurturing the healing environment of Maitri with dignity and love and is proud to recognize her with the George Stevens Award.
