BLISS 2012 CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF COMPASSIONATE CARE

Over 250 supporters gathered to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Maitri Compassionate Care at Bliss on May 5th. The venue was a change from past Bliss events and guests immediately got into the groove at the W San Francisco Hotel in the lively South of Market district.

Attendees enjoyed a plentiful bounty with carving stations serving delicious roast turkey, pork and pasta in addition to special goodies from Hot Cookie and yummy Blue Angel Vodka cocktails.  There was a wide variety of entertainment and features enjoyed by Bliss guests including a fashion show of Carmen Marc Valvo dresses modeled by Maitri volunteers, staff and supporters. A poignant moment was shared when the award winning filmmaker, Bill Weber premiered his stunning 14-minute documentary, The Gift of Compassion about Maitri, its residents, their loved ones and our community. The highlights of the evening were performances by Connie Champagne and Wade Preston, and a hilariously fun Live Auction with auctioneer, Lenny Broberg.  Maitri is grateful for the wonderful support provided by the Bliss Committee, sponsors, guests, volunteers and donors who donated in-kind gifts along with their time and energy to make Bliss 2012 a success.

Based on these and other glowing accolades from guests, Maitri’s signature fundraising event, Bliss 2011 was a resounding success.  The event took place on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the San Francisco County Fair Building where over 300 attendees gathered to commemorate 24 years of providing compassionate care for people living with AIDS.  From the exciting Taiko drummers to the extraordinary talents of Paula West and Kim Nalley; from the exhilarating live auction to the delicious bounty of food and libation, the evening reflected the unique nuances that make Maitri so special and its supporters so passionate about our mission. Over $100,000 - net of all expenses - was raised at Bliss 2011 for Maitri programs that have helped over 950 residents since 1987.
